The UK’s first National Wine Month in May aims to take the average wine drinker beyond their normal wine boundaries and to explore, discover and enjoy the wide variety of wines available in the UK. This 8000 year old beverage is said to be purchased by more shoppers than any other alcoholic drink, and May traditionally marks the start of the summer wine-drinking period.
Gulp has an extensive range of products for wine lovers and includes everything from glasses to carafes and award winning corkscrews to summer wine coolers.
Wine Carafe with Oak Stopper by Sagaform of Sweden, £22.95. Swedish and therefore ‘so simple yet beautiful’, these wine carafes with oak stoppers are stylishly curved with long, narrow, delicate necks. The spherical oak stopper is an unfussy but eye-catching finishing touch. Hand-blown from fine quality glass, the carafes draw on the strong Nordic design tradition.
Wine Sealer by Cilio, Germany £5.95. Cilio’s clever little wine gadget seals wine bottles air tight in a single-action snap. Press down to seal; push button on top of the seal downwards to release. The sealer is also leak-proof: an open wine bottle ‘Cilio-sealed’ can be stored flat in your fridge/on your shelf without a single drop of wine escaping. The sealer is made of satin stainless steel and has an inside diameter of 1.25 inches.
Spider Wine Glass Holder by Brink £18.50. This funky wine-glass holder (which doubles up as a centre piece) from Dutch design house, Bink, is oh-so-simple but yet so clever. It is perfect for outdoors as bottle and glasses can be carried around with just one hand!
Wine Finer by Nuance of Denmark £27.00. Danish designed, this little wine gadget (not much bigger than a fountain pen) does four jobs in one! It is a combination of an aerator, filter, non-drip pourer and stopper. To use the finer, simply insert into the bottle of wine and pour. The wine flows through 32 aeration vents which an inner stainless steel screen filters out sediments and cork. When you tilt the bottle upright having poured, the finer catches any drips. You can also use the stopper part of the finer to enjoy the wine later. Dishwasher safe and made from silicone and stainless steel.
Award winning Trulever Corkscrew £64.50. The Trulever has won several international prizes as well as a gold medal for innovation and design from Claude Mauffette, ADIQ at the Salon International des Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland. The spiral shaft is coated with Dupont Teflon non-stick coating (5 year warranty) and includes a foil cutter. Simply position the corkscrew over the wine bottle with the lever raised, then lower and raise the arm. Lower and raise the lever again to remove the cork. That's it! Comes in quirky tin gift box!
